Dr. Qi Sun, a Chinese-born scholar who specializes in cross-cultural, adult education at the University of Wyoming, has been named the first recipient of a World Comes to Wyoming grant.
Sun plans to spend a sabbatical year in China, beginning in the summer of 2010, working with two of the leading Chinese education universities:
- Qu Fu Normal, the national base for research and teaching on Confucianism,
- Beijing Normal, which has a well-recognized research institute of international and Comparative Education.
In addition to negotiating a UW summer abroad program to China, Sun will be setting up short-term lectures and workshops by Chinese professors in Wyoming, exchanges, joint research, and collaborative degree programs.
For her work with the Fund, Sun will cultivate video conferences and F2F engagement with interested community colleges and school districts. She will pilot these concepts in Casper, which is in the center of the state, and Powell, in the north, near the border with Montana.
