The non-profit organization Partners of the Americas, an alliance between Iowa and Yucatan, will invest more than 22 thousand dollars in scholarships for 21 low-income Yucatecan youth studying in high school or university, with the aim of promoting education in the interior of the state.
Martha Trujeque, a member of the Board of Directors, reported that the first delivery was made in Yaxcabá and that they will visit selected municipalities to deliver the financial support that the association provides to students.
“We are a group that was born 60 years ago between Iowa and Yucatan and since then we have shared various activities including our love for our culture, but also to encourage more Yucatecans to fulfill their dreams, that’s why it was decided to invest in education, mainly for low-income youth,” she emphasized.
She added that over the years they have been protagonists of various cultural, agro-industrial, community support, educational programs and more.
Students of tourism, architecture, administration, and biology will receive the stipend to complete their degrees that have left a mark in various parts of the state. However, she stressed that their work continues and this time with a goal of greater impact with students.
“On this occasion we have the visit of the president of the association in Iowa, Jeff Wilson, who is at the working table for the organization of these deliveries, together with the leader in Yucatan, William Chay Canul, and the other members. In this way, last Friday we delivered the first support in Yaxcabá and we will continue with the tour in the coming days,” she highlighted.
Likewise, she noted that 21 high school and university youth will be recipients of these amounts, with the objective of supporting those who wish to continue studying and encouraging them to complete a profession.
“The careers are varied, we have young people in tourism, architecture, administration, biology, among others. However, the support will continue in a timely manner and they will also be invited to participate in other activities that we organize,” she added.
On the other hand, she mentioned that they are also in talks with the state DIF to resume the Cardiology Program for children, since a few years ago the group participated with donations, which they seek to reactivate for the benefit of children who do not have the resources to pay for heart surgery.
